Since the beginning of the global pandemic, we have witnessed very public killings of Black people, virulent anti-Asian violence, armed white men marching and “patrolling the streets that has included the killing of others, executive orders banning various forms of “diversity training”, and protests against racism and violence happening all around the world. As part of the public discourse about this has been the role masculinity and whiteness has played in these events. All of this has been happening in an extremely divisive political environment culminating in the 2020 presidential election. And while the administration is changing, there is no guarantee that many of these dynamics will shift any time soon.
It is important to examine the role the men and masculinity has played in sowing the seeds of unrest and violence. It is also important to acknowledge the incredible leadership so many Women of Color and Queer People of Color have had in movements for social justice, while men often have received a disproportionate about of acknowledgement. And, it is important for men to find our places in these movements by listening and taking action. Part of this involves men coming together and having honest conversations about race and masculinity, racism and sexism, and so many more dynamics, to continue to find ways to build bridges across our differences to support social justice efforts.
Please join us for this event with this incredible group of thinkers and activists. We will be exploring the intersections of masculinity and race and racism, and where we go from here. Part of this involves men coming together and having honest conversations about race and masculinity, racism and sexism, and so many more dynamics, to continue to find ways to build bridges across our differences to support social justice efforts.
